Hello there, whoever this may be. Thanks for joining me, I always enjoy your company! I would like to share with you some incredible things that have happened lately and the equally wonderful things that have been shown to me as a result. So, without further ado; A Lesson in Being Light and Asking.
I recently discovered a band on YouTube that was laid across my path at the most perfect of times. The singer’s words resonate with me more than most other songs I’ve heard lately. I haven’t listened to much else for the last few days and I'm sure my laptop is probably like “okay man, let’s hit shuffle and get this show on the road!” (Sorry lil buddy, hang in there.) One of my favorite songs by them has a few lines that hit me like the softest, most welcomed ton of bricks. “Be of service, be a sensible person. Use your words and don’t be nervous. You can do this, you've got purpose. Find your medicine and use it.” How perfect and utterly true are those words? Be decent and do the things that make you happy to be alive. It really is that simple. Another one of their songs goes a little something like this; “But I believe in the good things comin’, comin’, come in, come in.” This song helps reiterate what I already know to be true. Ask for the things you really really want and believe in them, then let them come in. As soon as you ask for something you want, and I mean really ask the universe, you better prepare yourself to get it because one way or another everything works out! Believe in the good, invite it in and except it when it arrives. So that is the first part of my lesson in Being Light.
What I mean when I say being light, is to be open. Live as if there is an airy lightness to you, like you are transparent and ready to accept all the wonderful things that are offered to you. Don’t walk around like a heavy, closed off entity because wonderful things have a hard time getting into hardened containers. This is something I work on every single day. I truly believe that if you are open and optimistic about great things happening in your life that great things will result.
The other day I posted some flyers around the neighborhood offering inexpensive photography for fundraising my next trip to Africa. I stapled them to the telephone poles that line the sidewalks around where I am staying and included my email in case anyone was interested. Two days later I got an email. But it wasn't what I expected at all. It was from a woman claiming that her "jaw dropped a little" when she saw my posters. The woman continued by explaining that she leaves this Sunday for the Peace Corps. Guess where she is going?? Huh? Got any guesses? GHANA. I couldn't believe it! This world is really not that big folks. She said that she would love to meet up and talk to me about my experience, so we did.
We met up the next day in a coffee shop just around the corner and she was the sweetest thing. I told her all about my trip and about the things I found most interesting about the culture of Ghana. She had some questions for me and I definitely had some questions for her about the Peace Corps. I am so excited for this woman and I hope that we are able to stay in touch whenever we can. I know she is going to have an amazing two years ahead of her and I wish her the best of luck.
If I would have waited longer to get my flyers out, I may not have gotten to meet her. If she wouldn't have taken that exact route on her walk, she may not have seen my poster in time before her departure. I love how things work out like this, I appreciate it so much. I believe that because I was light and open to the possibility of meeting others and putting myself out there that I was able to meet someone and share an amazing conversation with them. Because the woman who emailed me didn't hesitate to write me and we didn't hesitate to meet each other we both gained knowledge that could be of great use in both of our futures.
Life shows me time and time again that there is so much happiness to be had. Even when life gets hard and the fog sets in, happiness can be found knowing that the dark times wont last forever. Live your life the way you want to and do the things that make your heart happy. Don't ever h e s i t a t e, you can do whatever it is that is in front of you!! I believe in you. Be l i g h t. Be o p e n to new things and new people. Be e x c i t e d and h o p e f u l for whatever it is you want. And remember to never, ever be afraid to a s k.
